Module 6 "Artwork Analysis"
Sandro Bottecelli " The Birth of Venus" located at the Uffizi Gallery Florence, Italy.
This Piece of art is " the Birth of Venus" which is a Tempera on canvas painting. This painting was Created by Sandro Botticelli in 1485, the dimensions of this painting are 172.5 X 278.5 cm. I find this painting just absolutely incredible. the line work is very detailed and edging is exact. it creates the perfect barrier for the eye to catch the distinction of change in background and also gives a transition of clear perspective into different parts of the painting. Considering that this painting is of mythical or a heavenly presence the coloration of this painting is very light. Taking in the context that this is a birth of perspective celestial being the colors have to be light ushering the dawn or a beginning of a new light. Venus is considered to be the goddess of love and beauty so the light blending of the shapes and color must give the illusion of the more than utter beauty of the event. Venus is also being ushered into the world by a woman who is looked at as a nativity of the spring time which is also a time of blooming and new. This piece of work is a great example of the creativity if the human mind and how we perceive the thought of a higher power sort-of-speak. It portrays the animation of the time in which it was created but also shows the beauty of early art and how we want to imagine these events to take place with such beauty and grace. Of course at the time italy had many great works of art but I find this to be one of the best cases of background and audience interpretation and how its perceived. Also in the fact that the way it was created with such balance and a sense of calm and confidence. Truly one for the ages.
